Poaching is when animals are hunted in an illegal way. It is considered poaching if the hunter uses and illegal weapon, bait, or other sort of tools. It is also considered poaching is the animal is endangered or is hunted on protected land. Many people poach for the “trophy”. They will also kill to make money, they sell the animal parts on the black market. “A black market, underground economy, or shadow economy is a market which has some aspect of illegality or is characterized by some form of noncompliant behavior with an institutional set of rules” (Wikipedia). On the black market a big horned sheets horns can be sold for about $20,000. Most of the times wild animals are sold as pets on the black market, but they are also sold in parts such as the meat, organs and fur or coats. there is an estimated 10,000 animals illegally hunted each year. Many poachers are never caught, and if caught they are rarely punished. Since 2008 poachers have killed nearly 5,940 African Rhinos. A staggering number of 1,275 Rhinos were killed in 2014. Up to 35,000 African Elephants were killed last year. Please help end the want to illegally hunt animals.
